Big boy bugler

Big boy bugler

Somehow I never posted this image but yet it is my favorite from this past fall's elk rut. Taken in Rocky Mountain National Park at the end of September. This massive bull elk had a harem of eight cows but was feeling the pressure from two other bulls nearby. Bald Eagle launches head on for Freedom Friday

Bald Eagle launches head on for Freedom Friday

I’ve been sitting on this image for a few weeks, anxiously awaiting posting it until after the holidays so more folks could see it. A rather unpleasant moose sends photographer backpedaling

A rather unpleasant moose sends photographer backpedaling

A fun story from today’s photo trip… Went to Brainard Lake in Arapaho National Forest, Colorado in search of #moose . Also thrown in the mix was dense ??fog?, something we don't get very often. All of it came together for some nice pictures including this one on a dirt road. The fog had settled into a low lying area that the South Platte River meanders through and as it did, it ...

Lightning illuminates a nocturnal beast

Lightning illuminates a nocturnal beast

Severe thunderstorms can be intimidating enough during broad daylight. Let the sun set and the 75mph winds, tennis ball size hail, and tornado warnings can be downright scary for those in the storm's path. Normally you wouldn't see much of the storm - or perhaps a brief glimpse. However in this case, the lightning was letting loose with multiple flashes per second. Enough in fact that in a 3 second exposure, virtually the entire structure of this massive supercell thunderstorm is ...
