This was a new sighting for me. I have seen male Bullock’s orioles and they are quite distinguishable with their orange and black coloring. When I spotted this female though, I had no idea what it was. Usually the females of most bird species are kind of plain looking but apparently not with the Bullock’s.
Bullock’s Oriole stands out
This is a little bird that you can’t help but pay attention to. I was focused on another species when this handsome fellow flew by and landed in the tree by me. Needless to say, that bright orange required me to take a closer look.
Bullock’s Oriole keeps watch over its shoulder
A small bird that I have struggled to get decent pics of, the male Bullock’s Oriole is a very beautiful bird. It’s orange, yellow and black plumage really make it stand out.
It has however proven elusive to me and seems to run and hide when I come with my camera. Very frustrating! I did finally capture a couple of decent images recently of one, this being one of them.
