A female Bald Eagle appears to be giving her mate quite an earful yesterday in Longmont, Colorado.
Bald Eagle love birds
My mission today was to find bald eagles and I was rewarded heavily. Four were seen at St Vrain State Park although the lighting was less than optimal and limited opportunities. Going into Longmont I then found a picture perfect pair. They initially were on two separate trees but the female soon came and joined its mate.

Hanging on and watching out
This Burrowing Owl and its clan were a hoot (pun intended) to watch this past summer. They have since left Colorado for southern latitudes where the weather is warmer during the winter. These little owls have a symbiotic relationship with prairie dogs, sharing their colonies with both sounding the alert when predators approach.
Prairie Falcon gets serious
I came across this handsome raptor a couple weeks ago in an area northeast of Denver . It was gracious enough to let me snap a bunch of pictures although unfortunately I have not seen it since.
Prairie Falcons are quite common in the western United States and are a very popular bird to be used in falconry .
You can view more pictures from my time photographing this bird here.
Bald Eagle performs picture perfect flyby
A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of witnessing a pair of eagles drive off a third that they felt was intruding on their territory. As the event unfolded, the two aggressors performed many flybys as they circled and took stock of the interloper.
I captured many worthy images of them as they flew only about 20 feet over my head – this is one of them. To view the complete gallery of their flybys, see below the main image.

Where to next?
A pronghorn buck looks into the valley below as if contemplating where it should bound off to next.
Pronghorn are what folks oftentimes mistakenly call antelope. However there are no species of antelope in North America. These speed demons are the second fastest land animal on earth – only the #cheetah is faster – and capable of speeds to 55mph.
Image taken this past July in Grand Teton National Park.
Can’t I just enjoy some peace and quiet and watch the snow?
Neighborhood watch
One of two Great Horned Owls that have taken up residency in a Denver area suburb. Taken on December 3, this one was keeping an eye on me but also struggling to stay awake. 😉
Sunrise at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge
More often than not, sunrises and sunsets in Colorado are colorful events that are very hard to ignore. This particular morning (November 28, 2014) was no exception as the sky was painted a wide gamut of pastels.
Get off my tree!
“Get off my tree!” Cold and snowy here in Denver, Colorado today but that didn’t stop me – and the wildlife. This Bald Eagle didn’t seem very happy with having to share its part of the tree with a Red Tailed Hawk. The eagle was extremely vocal in voicing its displeasure.
