Bambi in the tall grass

July 9, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

Well, maybe not that famous fawn, but this young deer and its mama were out walking yesterday.  It was very curious about me and didn’t seem to understand what the fuss was about.  I just love seeing all the newly born wildlife in spring and early summer.  Taken at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

Backyard pollinating

July 8, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

The bees really seem to be enjoying our lavender bushes this year.  Kind of fun to just go out and sit and snap a few pics of them as they buzz around.  Best of all, no driving to a destination.

This burrow is occupied!

July 7, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

While out taking pictures of burrowing owls near Denver International Airport yesterday something in one burrow caught my eye. Approaching cautiously – and using my zoom lens to get a closer look – I found a Prairie Rattlesnake had taken over the hole. From now on I will be a lot more cautious where I step when in that area. 😉

Yellowstone Black Bear cubs

July 6, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

It has been seven years since this picture was taken in Yellowstone and I will be heading back next week and throwing in some time in the Tetons. I am very much looking forward to trying to find more bears and hopefully some raptors.

Full disclosure: This image was actually taken by my wife with a point-and-shoot superzoom. I was having technical difficulty with my DSLR that day (operator error really but I will deny it if asked). Ha!

The ‘dog’ days of summer

July 6, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

Kind of a lazy day today for this prairie dog. Here in the West these rodents are, for the most part, considered pests. They are however kind of cute. 😉

Be vewy, vewy quiet – We’re looking for wabbits

“Be vewy, vewy quiet. We’re looking for wabbits.” Looks like I found a little one on this particular morning.  Taken June 15, 2014 at Jackson Lake State Park, Colorado.

The stare of the Burrowing Owl

July 5, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

Taken yesterday morning near Denver International Airport, this adult Burrowing Owl was surprisingly tolerant of my presence and let me take pictures of it from every angle.  It did keep a watchful eye as it sat on a yucca plant shoot. Please feel free to share.
