Some good and some bad about this series of images.
A friend messaged me and let me know a bald eagle was hanging out on the ice of a local pond (thank you, Jennifer!). I headed out and ended up having a fun time photographing it as it and a crow dined on a goose carcass. While maybe not pretty, that is nature and I love being able to capture those raw moments.
The bad? Bird flu is clearly running rampant on the Colorado Front Range again and killing many geese. I am seeing sick and dead ones on every body of water. While the goose population could use some culling, that is not the case for other birds that dine on infected birds and can catch the flu from the body. Sadly, there is little that can be done beyond letting the disease run its course and hope for the best.
