Jumping back to the amazing sunset we had a couple of weeks ago and this image I didn’t share at the time. Stitching together five images gives a very wide angle view of the amazing show that night from 300 feet above ground level with my drone. The field of view stretches from Pikes Peak to the south to Longs Peak to the northwest and all that is between. That was quite the show that night! Best viewed full screen.
The frozen waters of the Arctic?
Well, maybe only Colorado. 😉
Driving home from work on Thursday I saw some crazy cool forms on the ice of a local water storage lake. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my drone with me at the time but made sure I did yesterday. Flying anywhere between 3 feet to 150 feet above the ice I captured some crazy cool abstract-ish image of the frozen waters. There are some crazy cool details to take in with all the different forms so view each full screen for the best view.
Gorgeous sunset wave cloud with the Mile High City and Pikes Peak in the distance
I had a feeling last night’s sunset could be a good one. A beautiful wave cloud was stretching across the Front Range and it just seemed like it would happen. Indeed, it did.
As the sun went below the horizon, the cloud lit up beautifully in oranges and reds. I put my drone up for a bird’s eye view and from 400 feet above, it had an expansive view.
This shot, looking roughly straight south of me, captures the skyscrapers of downtown Denver in the distance. Center in the image, the iconic 14,115-foot-high Pikes Peak sits prominently, even from 75 miles away.
Drone panorama of a stunning winter sunset on the Colorado Front Range
Yesterday evening I shared a video of the stunning show Mother Nature put on at sunset. Here is a still shot of it. In fact, this is six shots put together to get a nice, wide panorama.
Of course, you have those crazy beautiful orange and pink clouds above the horizon. Below, the Rocky Mountains are silhouetted against the setting sun and the city lights of suburbia north of Denver line the ground.
For me, one of the best parts was that it was a relatively mild evening, so I wasn’t freezing my butt off to get the shots. 😉
Video: Drone panning a stunner of a sunset
Quick pan of tonight’s stunning sunset on the Colorado Front Range, taken north of Denver, 400 feet above ground level. Gorgeous! I’ll share some pics later but wanted to get this out there now.
Stunner of a sunset kicks off the weekend
Friday evening I was keeping close watch on the skies to the west. The clouds were lingering and with winds aloft, I suspected sunset could be a good one. Sure enough, before long, the colors started to change and those reds and oranges were making a show of it.
Being the end of the workweek though, I had zero motivation to drive somewhere and photograph it so resorted to my aerial equipment – my drone. You get a great view of the show above as well as the silhouette of the Rocky Mountains and lights on the streets of the suburbs near Denver, Colorado.
Fall and winter bring some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets to the Front Range, as this image shows.
Stunner of a sunset north of Denver, Colorado
Ugh! I was a bit late to the party as I was wrapping up dinner but when I went to let Scout out (my dog), I realized I needed to try to capture some of the show this evening. I quickly ran inside and grabbed my drone and put it up for some quick captures of the sunset as the colors began to fade. If I had only been five minutes earlier, I am sure it would have been better but as-is, it came out pretty nicely I think.
Happy Maze Monday! Or is it Maize Monday?
My photo excursion yesterday did not turn out as planned. Multiple stops and a few miles of hiking yielded less than 10 captures on my camera. I was desperate to capture something, anything, so stopped by the corn maze that isn’t too far from my house.
This was actually something I had been wanting to photograph with my drone for quite a while, so it worked out okay. The view of the geometric shapes that make up the various paths through the maze were kind of cool to see from above and aren’t something you would normally be able to appreciate. If you live in the Denver area, stop by Maize in the City and check it out!
The golden road from above
Yesterday I made my annual fall foliage trip, taking Boreas Pass out of Breckenridge, up and over to Como, then Guanella Pass from Grant to Georgetown. The colors were absolutely awesome as always and this was probably the prime time for them for many locations. Certainly, I took plenty of shots from ground level but also brought along my drone for aerial views. This was taken from about 350 feet above looking straight down. Kind of fun and different.
Kaboom!
Way cool storm cell northeast of where I live in the burbs north of Denver. This is a five image stitched together panorama. Lots to see in this capture. Crazy details and notice the near ground-level rainbow below the towering thunderhead. Awesome stuff! Almost makes me want to go back to storm chasing. 😉
