Remembering Medicine and Maligne Lakes in Jasper National Park

Much of the northern plains, including Denver, have been besieged by smoke in recent days from wildfires burning in Canada. Yesterday, I saw the news that the town of Jasper, Alberta and the adjacent Jasper National Park were being evacuated due to two fires in the area. I found that incredibly sad as I remembered our time there in June of 2016 on what was probably my favorite family vacation we have ever done.

I had always dreamt of RVing in the northern Rockies and we were finally able to make it a reality. While Jasper doesn’t get as much attention as nearby Banff National Park, we preferred Jasper in many ways. The scenery was stunning, the wildlife plentiful, and it was far less busy than its neighbor to the south. Throughout the trip I kept saying, “You can’t take a bad picture here,” – it was truly that beautiful.

Anyway, going back to that trip, here is a look at a couple of the lakes that are only a few miles from one of the fires’ perimeters. May God watch over those fleeing the flames and keep them, their families and the firefighters safe.
