A few years back I photographed a different comet and thought that was a once in a lifetime chance. Well, here we are now, and the skies have given another opportunity.
This time, it is Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS). Discovered in early 2023, skywatchers including me have been anxiously awaiting this moment. It is believed Tsuchinshan–ATLAS has an 80,000 year orbit around the sun so, needless to say, I won’t be around to see it next time. 😀
It is becoming visible to the naked eye now but binoculars will allow you to get a better view of it. About 45 minutes after sunset, look to the west southwest, about 20 to 30 degrees above the horizon. You will then have about an hour to view it until it sinks below the horizon. Taken in Thornton, Colorado.
