
While checking on dinner on the grill last night, I couldn’t help but take notice of the bright moon rising above.
Normally I don’t like to take pics of the full moon unless I have a nice foreground as the direct light during a full moon makes the moon look kind of flat. To help address this, I took 48 pictures of our natural satellite then stacked them all together creating this image. It allows us to see some great detail and the variations in the coloring of the moon.
This full moon is one of three supermoon’s this year, a term for when we have a full moon coinciding with it being at its closest point to Earth in its orbit (perigee). At 221,817 miles away, this is the closest supermoon of the year and about 17,000 miles closer than the average full moon.
