This juvenile didn’t look too thrilled about getting its picture taken. 😉

I haven’t taken a lot of pictures this season of these fun, summertime visitors to Colorado like I normally do. No real reason, just have not. The pics I have taken of them have been pretty good though.

This young one was one of two at this nest and this image was taken a couple weeks ago, soon after the pair had fledged and started to spread their wings. They are now busy bulking up and honing their flight and hunting skills as they have little time to waste before they begin their winter migration back to Argentina.

Swainson’s have one of the longest migrations of any raptor – nearly 12,000 miles round trip! I would be tempted to undertake that to skip out on Colorado’s winters. 😉
