Kind of a fun shot of this near-adult bald eagle as it watched from a large pile of dirt in the Colorado foothills. Raptors oftentimes use the large dirt piles from the gravel pit and concrete plant in this area as a high ground perch. There aren’t many trees so instead they use the earth that has been moved to keep watch on the ground below.

Yesterday, this one was quite content from its perch, too much so as while I waited, it refused to budge. It isn’t often you see them on the ground so it makes for a fun, different capture of our national emblem.
