Bighorn rams strike a pose for their portraits

These magnificent creatures, the Centennial State’s official animal, have been a focus of mine lately. My efforts had yielded some okay pics but not on par with what I wanted – until this past Saturday.

I travelled to the high country, trying a spot for them that I had not had luck with previously but thought it was worth a shot again. Indeed, it was. I came across a couple of groups of these, these two being part of the larger or those. Three big rams and a dozen or so ewes spent time grazing on grasses down low and climbing the cliffs above.

I had hoped to see some battles but they weren’t in the mood to fight, probably due to the unseasonably warm weather. Nevertheless, I got some cool shots including this of the two biggest rams.
