Black bear grazes head on

Normally I have great luck finding and photographing black bears in Yellowstone. This recent trip however, I just couldn’t seem to get a good opportunity with them. The few I found were mostly either too far away or just wouldn’t cooperate for pics.

The one exception was this pretty sow who was grazing early one morning. Her cub was high up in a nearby pine tree, staying safe. Most of the time mom had her face stuck in the grass but I managed one passable shot when she briefly lifted her head.
