Departing gray ghost

One of my favorite raptors, the male northern harrier, and the first of the season I was able to get quality captures of. My friend and I spotted this handsome fellow Saturday as the hawk patrolled the plains.

It gave me a number of nice captures but I like this one the best even though he is heading away as it does a nice job showcasing both the upper and lower plumage on this beautiful bird. Underneath, the stark white and on top, the beautiful gray that gives it its nickname. Of course you get a look at those blazing yellow eyes that are captivating. In the background, the blurred snow-covered Rocky Mountains provide some nice interest to the capture.
