Double launch!
A red tailed hawk and bald eagle lift off together. (© Tony’s Takes)

Red tailed hawk and bald eagle in a synchronized take off. A very fun shot although not very good in terms of the technical aspect of a photo.

My friend and I spotted a pair of bald eagles on these poles and as we hiked in to photograph them, the red-tailed hawk attacked and scared off the male eagle. The hawk then took up a spot on the cross member, near the female. Neither seemed too keen on having their picture taken and when one departed, the other went at the same time.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t expecting the action so the aperture on my camera wasn’t set small enough to give enough depth of field to render them both in focus. Nevertheless, it was kind of cool how they nearly matched each other’s lift off.
