I’m not so sure it was happy to see me but I was pleased to spot my first ferruginous hawk of the season this past weekend. It had staked out a prime spot in a prairie dog colony and was just waiting for the right opportunity to grab a meal from the local residents. These guys are some of my favorite hawks. They have beautiful plumage and that mouth gape gives them a joker smile.
