Get off my mountain!

Bighorn sheep ram rams another, chases it off. Love is in the air and the rams are competing for the attention of the ewes.

This past Saturday I spent the morning with a herd of them in the Colorado high country. There were not any big battles, unfortunately, but the tension was palatable and the boys clearly did not have much patience for each other.

Here, three rams had surrounded a ewe and one of the rams decided three was a crowd. It slammed its head into the side of another, then chased it down the mountain, making clear its presence was not desired.

The morning was a very fun one spent with the Centennial State’s official mammal and I will definitely be doing it again soon.
