Jackalope poses in the fresh snow

Even with as much time as I spend on the plains of Colorado, you could count on one hand the number of times I have seen these rarest of creatures. Only two of those times was I able to get a picture and those were only of the animal as it fled.

Last month, after a recent snowstorm, I rounded a corner and there was one, sitting and posing as perfectly as you could hope for! It was surprisingly patient, allowing me to grab quite a few pictures, this one being my favorite.

The sighting was one of those truly extraordinary ones I relish as a wildlife photographer and what keeps me going out at every opportunity. I certainly hope your first day of April is just as memorable.
