My friend and I were photographing a sub-adult bald eagle (left) when a juvenile decided to come in and join it. The juvenile’s approach scared off the first eagle and, when attempting to land, it failed to estimate the strength of the branch it was trying to grab. The branch gave way and the poor, inexperienced eagle clotheslined itself on a solid upper branch.
At the time we thought it was just a normal failed landing or it changed its mind. Looking at the pictures, you really see what happened. That’s gotta hurt! 😀
