Majestic bighorn sheep rams strike a pose

Check out these two brutes! Taken late last year on one of my excursions to the Colorado high country. The pair was large and in charge and while they never really butted heads, the tension was high between them. The way the two posed identically makes for a fun capture. Bighorn sheep are found in many places in the state’s high country.

Diseases from European livestock and overhunting had caused the animal’s population to drop precipitously by the early 1900s. Thankfully conservation efforts have been successful in helping them rebound since then.
