Mustangs quarrel at the watering hole

The disagreement wasn’t about drinking rights, it was, as you might expect, over a lady. The blonde horse apparently had a new love and he did not appreciate the white / gray horse getting close to her. The pair squared off, slapped their legs in the water at each other, and when the defender got more aggressive, the contender backed down readily. I was kind of hoping to see them rear up and each other but that was not to be. It was still a ton of fun to see these two warriors challenge one another. The horses are believed to have been around since Spanish explorers, possibly including Francisco de Coronado, left them behind or lost them during their expeditions in the mid to late 1500s. In the centuries since, the horses have thrived on the dry, high desert of Sand Wash Basin in northwestern Colorado.
