This is my favorite bald eagle nest, one which I have shared many pictures from over the years. There should be a bald eagle sitting in there on eggs. Unfortunately, there is not which means the nest has failed.
Was it last week’s snowstorm? Just bad luck? Did the interloping eagle I have spotted in the area do something? We will never know.
I spent two hours there waiting, hoping and while one of the eagles did make a flyby to add some grass to the home, it headed off right away. I spotted both of them about a half mile away so at least I know they are okay. Will they try again? Possibly, as occasionally when a nest fails the mated pair will try again. It is not likely however.
