A bull moose takes a whiff of the rarified high-altitude air. This guy was hassling a female that had two calves with her and wanted no part of his advances. See my pics from last week for images of that family.
Not easily deterred, the bull pursued and stood nearby while the trio grazed. Doing the flehmen response, he curled his lips back, raised his head and got a big smell of the surrounding air, likely to determine if she was ready and willing. ?
