Whoohoo! It has been a couple of years since I was able to catch a nice dive of one of these awesome raptors. While the light was less than ideal, I was happy to get one this past Sunday.
This osprey circled the pond multiple times, watching the water for an unsuspecting fish below. Finally, it brought itself to a near hover, oriented itself head down, tucked its wings back, extended its talons and dove with amazing speed. In the end, it was successful, getting a nice meal for itself and leaving me happy with the shots I got.
Getting this action is probably the most challenging of any I attempt. It all happens in a split second and tracking the bird as it dives at up to 50mph is very difficult.
