Definitely one of those ‘more about the story rather than the pics’ as the images are sub-par but it was a fun scene to witness.

Returning from Rocky Mountain National Park, a friend and I took a slight detour along a road that oftentimes brings worthy raptors. Off in a field, we spot a group of five good-sized birds that required investigating. There, we find a lone red-tailed hawk and four turkey vultures.

It was clear the hawk had some sort of prey it was guarding from the carrion-loving vultures. Eventually, the hawk took off with its meal (a prairie dog) and the vultures were left to fight over scraps. Again, long shots and the heat of the day was preventing good pics but it was fun to see.
