From my most recent visit to my local great horned owls. My friend and I were able to find them both but only one was in a spot that allowed its picture to be taken. As you can see, it was only able to partially open its eyes from its daytime slumber and then, just long enough to ensure we were no threat. Owls have begun their pre-mating rituals and will soon be taking up residence on their nests as they lay claim to their homes earlier than most other birds.
