A couple weeks ago I saw the first of these Argentinian visitors of the season to Colorado. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any decent pics, at least none that I felt were worthy of sharing. Sunday that changed.

I had numerous encounters with them and got some cool captures, including this one. This one appears to be wanting to set up its summer home in this tree and here, departed to go grab another stick.

Swainson’s have one of the longest migrations of any raptor – up to 12,000 miles. Winters are spent in Argentina while summer finds them across much of the western half of the United States.
