Holy moly! This was some absolutely insane action last weekend.

There were a dozen or so bald eagles hanging out, occasionally fishing a lake. As is typical, when one would catch a fish, others would pursue it, hoping to steal the meal rather than catch their own. Usually, those chases don’t last long. The eagle that caught it will lose its grip or its pursuers just give up.

On this occasion however, the juvenile bald eagle was ridiculously persistent, chasing the adult for over five minutes. In a fast and furious scene that played out at close range at times, the pair ducked and dived, turned and burned, putting on an amazing aerial display. In the end, I don’t think the juvenile was successful. I shot dozens of pictures of them battling, these are some of my favorites.
