The triplets

My first and only good look at the trio of nestling bald eagles at my favorite nest. It is so exciting to see all of them looking healthy and ready to carry on their once endangered species.

I’ve been observing this nest for nearly 10 years and have witnessed triumph and tragedy, life and death. It can be hard sometimes but it is worthwhile when you see new life like this. As I have mentioned, this is a first for this nest – three eaglets – and it is, overall, a relative rarity for our national emblem.

They are about a month from fledging and taking their first flights and carrying on the recovery of this amazing species. And just because someone will have to try to prove how smart they are, yes, I know they are technically not triplets since they all came from different eggs and were born a day or two apart from each other.
