The white-tails don’t get all the attention that the mule deer due if only because of their smaller racks. However, I find them just as handsome and oftentimes they are more active than their slightly bigger cousins. Such was the case yesterday.

The mulies only wanted to munch on grass and weren’t in the spirit of the rut. The white-tails however, were raring to go. I saw multiple bucks chasing after the does, some with a lot of vigor. This handsome fellow seemed to be tailing another buck, perhaps looking to pick a fight.

Judging from the one broken off tine it has, it clearly had already been in a battle or two. He looked quite handsome though as he stood proudly on this little rise in the early morning sun.
