Yearning for the mountains in springtime
Sand Mountain north of Steamboat Springs, Colorado on a late spring day. (Tony’s Takes)

They say some nasty Arctic cold is on its way to the Denver area later this week. That will certainly serve as a reminder that while we may be dreaming of scenes like this, we do have a bit of a wait.

Taken at the beginning of June last year, my wife and I took an impromptu trip to northwestern Colorado, stopping and spending a couple of days in the Steamboat Springs area. One day we ventured to the area near Steamboat Lake State Park.

Just to the west, we found a forest service road and did some exploring that afforded us this gorgeous view of what I believe is Sand Mountain. Just a beautiful spot and we enjoyed hiking around and sitting on the tailgate of the truck having lunch.
