With three nestlings to take care of, the adults have a lot of hungry mouths to feed. During my most recent visit, a coot and a prairie dog were on the delivery menu. Here, the male heads off to hunt, eventually bringing back the latter. I kind of liked this shot with the aggressive posture of the launch and the dappled light hitting its face as it emerges from the shadows.
