Viper takes to the skies for Fighting Falcon Friday

Certainly, my preference leans Navy but I have to say the Air Force zoomies did a pretty darned good job with this.  The U.S. Air Force’s F-16 Viper Demo Team put on a way cool display this past weekend, dare I say better than the Thunderbirds’ solos do in the same aircraft.

Recently, the Viper team began flying their plane in this throwback livery to when the YF-16 prototype first flew in 1974. I was very excited to see it in person as when I was a young lad, I actually had a book about fighter planes that had that plane on the cover. It is very unique, iconic, and just pretty darned cool looking.

On a random note, the official, original name of this aircraft was the Falcon. Over time, Viper has become more common, due in theory to the plane looking similar to the Viper fighter in the TV show, Battlestar Galactica.
