Big glacier, little birds

Going back to the end of July and our trip to Alaska. On a day cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park, our furthest viewing spot after leaving Seward was the famous Holgate Glacier.

It is one of the smaller glaciers in Aialik Bay but certainly impressive. Viewing from afar it is tough to gauge the sheer size of it – the boat captain said the face is 300 feet high. However, if you look close at the second picture, you can see gulls flying around in front of it and they are very clearly dwarfed by the face.

There is really a lot to soak in as you look at these pics. The color, the details of the ice. Really neat to see!
