This Kid is King of the Mountain

August 21, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

This kid is king of the mountain. At least it looks that way. Taken from the top of Mount Evans, Colorado, this Mountain Goat kid seemed pretty proud of itself for being taller than 14,000 feet. 😉

Sunrise at 14,265 feet

Taken on top of Mount Evans, Colorado this past Sunday morning. We weathered 40° temperatures with 40 mph winds as the sun rose – it was SO worth it!

Mount Evans is the 12th tallest of 53 ‘fourteeners’ in the Centennial State. Did you know Colorado has the majority of peaks in the contiguous United States over 14,000 feet?

Marmot warming up with the sunrise

August 18, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

Taken on Mount Evans (Colorado) yesterday morning when the temperature was 40° and the wind howling at 40 mph. This little guy seemed pretty happy to have the sun out.

Sometimes called a ‘rock chuck,’ the yellow-bellied marmots are actually part of the squirrel family.

Mountain Goat wise guy

Taken yesterday, August 18, 2014, atop Colorado’s 14,265 foot Mount Evans right as the sun was coming up. The resident Mountain Goat herd provided some outstanding #photo opportunities, some of which were pretty amusing.

Clearly this one was showing what it thought about having its picture taken. 😉

Mountain Goat surveys its domain from on high

A mountain goat surveys its domain from atop Mount Evans, Colorado this morning.

It was facing into the morning sun while standing on the remains of the Crest House, an old restaurant at the 14,265 foot summit that burned down in 1979 and was never rebuilt.

What are you doing on my mountain?

August 17, 2014 by Tony Leave a Comment

This Mountain Goat was pretty interested in me this morning atop 14,265 foot high Mount Evans, Colorado.

We arrived right before dawn and were greeted by 40° temperatures and 40 mph winds. It was well worth it though. A gorgeous sunrise, the view from up high, the mountain goats and marmots were all prime features.
