
A captive falcon from a recent photo event I took part in.
Certainly, I get tons of pics of these small but fierce raptors in the wild but this was a fun opportunity to work on compositions that you just don’t usually get in the wild. In this case, the kestrel was perched on a downed tree branch and since it wasn’t going anywhere, I could move around to get this pretty scene.
While this is a male, kestrels remind me of a quote from William Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream: “Though she be but little, she is fierce.” Indeed, while they are the smallest of raptors, they are every bit as aggressive and fierce as their bigger cousins.
