Holy smokes! What a fantastic discovery today. I visited my favorite bald eagle nest for the first time in a month.
Last time, I confirmed two eaglets were present. Today, I spotted the two and at one point when they were both on one side of the nest, I thought I saw something else move in there but decided it was probably my imagination. Well, I get home, process the pictures and what do I see? Indeed, there are THREE nestlings!
Look to the right of the one flapping its wings and you can see it. This is a first for this nest and it is actually pretty rare to see three live this long anywhere. They are still a month or more away from fledging and something could change in that time but to say I am excited would be an understatement.
