Bald Eagle pair works on starting a family

An absolute treat to have learned about this nest from a fellow shutterbug. Yesterday my daughter and I spent a few hours watching the pair which included two attempts at copulation.

These are some images from their second go at it. Most notable and somewhat amusing is that at the end the female falls backwards. Somehow she managed to hold on and flap her way right back onto the branch though.

The mating is something few people get to see – I have only seen it once before – so it was a very special thing to witness. I look forward to meeting their offspring in a few months!
