Benjamin takes flight

So danged exciting! My first flight captures of the juvenile Bald Eagle at the nest I have been watching in recent months.

It had been a few weeks since I was able to visit and for hours, the young one was content to just sit. Once Mom went and got a fish though, then it suddenly got active and was ready to eat. It sure made a lot of noise the whole time and did quite well in the air. I do wish it hadn’t waited so long to fly as by the time it did the light was very harsh. Oh well.

So why do I call the eaglet Benjamin? Well, I was struggling to come up with a unique name, something different than the obvious ones like ‘freedom,’ ‘America,’ etc. My wife, being a bit of a smart aleck suggested ‘Benjamin’. She loved the irony of naming this majestic bird after the one Founding Father that very vocally expressed his dislike for Bald Eagles, Benjamin Franklin.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
