One of the best parts about one of our favorite camping spots in Arapaho National Forest is being able to spend time with these creatures. We see them virtually without fail and my morning photo excursions usually only require a short four mile drive up a forest service road to a hot spot for them.
Each morning at dawn for most of the past week that is where you would find me, all alone, with only the moose and the sounds of a nearby creek. The big boys are of course the highlight and while none in this area are truly huge, this one is becoming a contender for sure.
On our last morning, he and seven bulls were hanging out in the same area, giving many photo opportunities. Right now they are pretty docile but in a couple of weeks they will begin to work that velvet off their antlers and then the rut will begin and they will be far more aggressive.
