One of my favorite pictures from this year’s rut for #WapitiWednesday. You may have seen this guy previously in the video I shared of him bugling, calling to the ladies. I felt like this capture was deserving of its own showcase.
It had rained all night and with the dawn, the showers continued. These guys are quite used to the conditions and indeed, endure far worse, so the action did not stop. This big guy was without a harem but emerged from the forest, announced his presence, and let everyone know he was ready and willing. The bull with its hot breath steaming and the falling rain made for a way cool scene.
