Every time I see a raptor do this, I am baffled how the heck they don’t hurt themselves. I mean, look at those talons! ? Somehow though they manage and just like when we scratch an itch, it seems to satisfy them as well. This goes back to an encounter in late August with this great horned owl. It had chosen to perch out in the open on a stand for a warning siren. I managed some cool captures of them including this series.
