This is one handsome dude! He is probably one of the most cooperative burrowing owls I have ever come across.
I was sitting on the ground, photographing him and his mate from a respectful distance when he flew right up, landed 10 feet from me, and checked me out. This is not the first time he has done this, proving to be quite curious and tolerant of the guy with the big camera lens.
It allowed me to capture this awesome closeup of its face with some crazy detail in its feathers and eyes. You will also notice it is wearing some blood left over from its breakfast.
