Ferruginous hawk stakes out a piece of ground

Ready and waiting for a meal, this ferruginous was sitting in a prairie dog colony yesterday morning. The hawks do this and wait for some poor, unsuspecting victim to pop out and then it will spring into action to catch a meal. They really are beautiful with that bright, yellow mouth being my favorite feature of them. This one gave me some nice eye-to-eye contact.
