Holy cow! Check out this monstrous addition to its nest that this bald eagle had! Being a female eagle, she has about a six-foot wingspan. That stick is a good bit bigger than that and she went and simply broke it off a tree in mid-flight. Amazing!
This is at a new nest I have been following (location will not be disclosed). She and a male have been in the area for more than a month now. They evicted some red-tailed hawks from a nest and have been putting their own touches on their new home. You will notice she has a bit of a ‘dirty’ head with some dark spots. This means she is coming up on her fifth birthday and nearing full adulthood. Her mate seems to be of a similar age.
Will they be successful in mating this year? It is possible but they are a touch young so it could be that this year they just play house. I will of course be hoping they are and will be closely watching.
