Fox kit pounces on its prey
A red fox kit pounces on some unsuspecting prey in Colorado’s high country. (Tony’s Takes)

They learn young. Taken back in May, this little one was only a couple months old but already learning how to hunt. Granted, a leaf or bug was likely all it was attacking but it already had good form just like its parents. It showed no mercy on its tiny prey, pouncing on it five or six times. 😉

In another couple of months, I hope to once again find a few dens to monitor through the spring. Last year was a bit of a down year with only one den to watch and it required a pretty good drive to get to. Fingers crossed for better luck this year.
