Fox kits stake out the high ground

A couple of cuties for Fox Friday. As one of their siblings ventured further and further from the den, these two watched from a distance, being a bit more cautious.

I had a fantastic morning with this fox family last weekend but, unfortunately, they are 75 miles away so I won’t be visiting them very often.

The parents had staked out a nice home in close proximity to humans. While this might seem unwise, foxes actually do this quite on purpose. Coyotes and bobcats are their natural enemies but both of those creatures are very wary of humans. By opting for homes closer to human populations, foxes can keep their family a bit safer than if they were elsewhere.
