Oh, what a charmed encounter this was. I previously shared an image of this gorgeous eagle back in February when I encountered it on the plains of Colorado. Here is another capture from that same event.
When I first spotted it, the light was poor and shadows deep so I mistook it for a juvenile bald eagle. Thankfully, I slowed down and took the time to double-check or I might have just blown right by it. Once I realized it was a golden, my excitement level went up several notches and I worked hard to ensure I took advantage of the opportunity.
Here, you get a look at that beautiful plumage including the golden “mane” that gives the bird its name. And those talons, yikes, those clearly could do some damage.
