This one took me by surprise! Early last month I had spotted a great horned owl and soon after, a second one in the same location. I was not initially aware that there were, in fact, three! It was only when I was walking through the stand of trees to one of the others that I saw the third and would have entirely missed it had it not moved.
No sooner did I start to lift my camera than it took flight overhead. Using the “spray and pray” method, I hoped I would get something as it flew, nabbing only one decent shot out of it. The capture is kind of a cool one, showcasing the bird’s wingspan with some nice, early morning light.
