Hanging out with the vultures

On our camping trip in Wyoming last week, there were a lot of these cool birds circling around. I ventured out Sunday morning in hopes of finding a communal roost, as these birds are known to hang out at night together. Sure enough, I found about two dozen of them scattered across a few trees in close proximity to each other.

Certainly, it was the most I have ever seen in one spot. They gave me some cool looks and while I know they aren’t very popular, I think they are way cool.

Interesting fact… A group of turkey vultures hanging out in trees like this is called a committee. When they are soaring / circling together, it is called a kettle. If they are gathered together and feeding on a carcass, it is quote appropriately called a wake.
